About An Angel
First, I want to thank all of you for your kind prayers, emails, and phone calls. They meant a lot to me and this family.
On Wednesday, my mother in law, Connie, passed away. I have no doubt that a choir of angels ushered her into God's arms. And if ever there was a living example of God's grace it would be in the way her family came together in her last six days. Her four grown children, her brother, sister, best friends and husband never left her side. Through tears, laughter, and reminiscing they celebrated a life so worthy of celebration. Nothing, and I do mean nothing, could have made her happier.
I heard a line in a song this week. To be careful and not measure life by the number of breaths we take, but rather the moments that take our breath away. And Connie had MANY. I cannot think of a milestone, important event, or celebration in the last 21 years that I've had that she wasn't a part of and it was that way for everyone in her family. She lived in the moment more than anyone else I've ever known. She was in the hospital for the arrival of each of her nine grandchildren and I think those were the nine happiest days of her life. She made it to their Christmas plays and concerts, preschool graduations, baseball games, cheerleading competitions....she knew exactly what fads each child was into, their favorite candy , treats, and clothing & shoe size. She sent a card for each and every birthday, holiday, anniversary. She was happiest when her cozy little house was bursting at the seams with family and friends. She had a heart of gratitude and joyfully made the most of every moment. We can all use a little more of that.
I admired her for her generous spirit and her kind soul. And while our hearts are still mending the loss of her in our lives, we will celebrate all the ways she touched ours and we will continue to honor her as she most certainly watches over us. Let your heart swell with pride, Connie, you created a beautiful family and a life anyone would have been blessed to live. We love you.
